Builds 40 & 41 in the books. Built Pig Pen from the movie Convoy. It will go nicely with my Rubber Duck from the same movie. The trailer is just the AMT livestock trailer, with pigs. It went together very easily and was a fun build. The Mack Cruise Liner was a pretty simple build. Not too many headaches. Painted like the movie truck. Decals aren’t the best, but it’s what I had.
Hey gents I was in Richmond on travel and visited the local Hobby Town store. It was big and clean. While there I sent pix of truck models they had to our resident expert Scott and he asked me to get two of them-which he will turn into bling at upcoming shows! Happy to give the assist (i wonder if I will get a percentage of Scott’s awards for this?!!)
I was a bit shocked when the young man clerk never heard of IPMS so they don’t give the usual 10% here. That said the store has well stocked paint racks and a good tool selection. Would be worth your dropping in when in Richmond. I picked very very (yes double) sprue cutters intended for Gundam models, 2 trucks for Scott, and paints.
Hey folks, Chad suggested an ad to join our club at the Strasburg Emporium. I put an ad up on their bulletin board while on a road trip to Lexington this week. I stopped in Staunton to visit Front Line Hobbies and Christian agreed to post a flyer there too! Who else can do this to spread the word? Chad and I have the soft copy of the flyer and can send to you to put up at a location you visit. Help get new members!
I’ve created a potluck signup sheet using Google Sheets and everyone should be able to add to it, even if you don’t have a Google account. Please give it a look and see what folks intend to bring and add your dish and name to the list. Please plan to bring one dish for each person attending.
Here are some pics from Bunkermania. I won the belt for best armor. They allow for the armor in dios to be judged aside from the dio. I also won the trophy for best British armor, and gold medallion for the dio. I won gold, and best Luftwaffe airplane for my Me 262.
I won gold for my dino and truck.
I took silver/2nd for the armor. They use an open judging system. The president, “Sarg”, told me that basically everyone gets at least a bronze. Definitely a fun show. I am still on cloud nine with the whole belt thing.
Here are some pics from the showroom. As you can see it was a small show.
Good day gents. The November meeting went well. It was good to see members who have not been able to make the last couple of meetings.
We hope we convinced Todd to write an article for the IPMS Journal on his unmatched fiber optics and scratch building methods/results. I owe an article about our club to the Journal and will try and get that done before Thanksgiving.
Remember the December meeting will be at 2pm instead of 11. We will need about 7 dishes, 5 deserts, and drinks. Chad will make a sign up list on the site so food stuff can be managed. Also remember we will have a gift exchange/gift steal event so everyone bring a wrapped gift.
The January meeting will be on the 2nd Saturday but thereafter the meetings will be on the 1st Saturday of each month. Mark your calendars! Also remember the airbrush pro Tom takes lessons from will be there to show us cool stuff — bring your own airbrush for a professional exam of your brush to get any faults fixed.
I am very happy to announce Randy won big at BunkerMania in PA; he earned many awards and got Best Armor! Way to go Randy!
Many thanks to Todd and his wife for offering up their home for the December event but for the sake of drivers coming from far south down I 81 the church venue will be a lesser drive for them.
Finally, we have been meeting for 18 months. Is everyone happy with the meetings; any ideas for changes. If all good then great but if folks things are stale then I am open to your thoughts!
This is a kit build with good instructions. Be sure to include all interior parts even if you know you won’t see them otherwise the plane will tilt up. I built the main body then primed and painted after masking the cockpit. I painted the pilot and interior before, of course. I painted all add-ons separately before gluing them on. Glue the underwing stuff first. I used a small box with cutouts for the wings and nose to support the fuselage and to keep the tail assembly from breaking . Then flip the plane over and attach the top surface pieces. Lastly, flip the plane over on the box and attach the painted landing gear parts. Then decals. The nose decal is tricky…go very slow. Good luck
It’s been a little hectic with family life, so building has been slowed down I did manage to get a 68 Charger and a Freightliner COE done.
The charger is built the drag version that’s part of the kit. It comes either a stock RT with a 440 or it can be built drag with the all mighty 426 Hemi.
The Freightliner was built box stock with a 40 dry van trailer. Painted to match as if it were an owner/operator. The trailer goes together without much fuss, but I’m done with these AMT Freightliners. This is the third one I’ve dine, and I asked myself “Why are you doing this to yourself, AGAIN!!” This kit is just a major pain. Filling the cab seems, getting the mirrors together and some other little issues. I’m not a fan of it at all. All in all, I guess it turned out okay.
Monogram 1926 Mack Bulldog Dump truck kit completed. Weathered with AK weathering enamel paints and Tamiya weathering pastels. I created the load of coal in the bed using Styrofoam roughed up and airbrushed with semi-gloss black. Looks amazingly realistic.
Hi gents. In addition to the CH-54 Tarhee and the Dolphin 2 helos, I have also been toiling away on a 75mm dragon and warrior knight-ess. The dragon and warrior came with a tree/rock stand. My sheltie hoard knocked over the tree stand and a branch broke off. Bad dogs! I glued in back on and will touch it up to blend it back in.
The knight-ess has yet to be painted; she is only primed for now. The dragon, so far, has about 9 layers of various colors on him. Still have more to go! Dragons are so cool.
You see in the background the horse for a 1/16 scale French Cuiraasier waiting for his rider!
