Luftwaffe Rescue Boat

The Luftwaffe used the same boat as the Kriegsmarine captain’s gig.  The Luftwaffe used it however as a rescue boat to pick up downed aircrew in the Channel.  Here is the boat in work.  It is 1/35 scale.  The pilot house had zero interior so I scratchbuilt what you see inside it.  I added the hand bars on top of the house using evergreen strips.  I primed it a bit to see how it was coming along and where extra attention needed to be applied.
The picture of gear that will be eventually added are from various 1/35 accessory kits.   Will keep you posted on progress!

  1. So these were used to retrieve aircrews that had landed in the Channel and taken refuge in the rescue buoys anchored there for just such a purpose. Those rescue buoys were pretty posh as “emergency shelters” go. My first apartment wasn’t as nice. My question is, did the RAF ever strafe the buoys/rescue boats or was that verboten?

    • that rescue buoy would make for an interesting scratch build; they look sort of neat and you have to admit whoever thought of that had a great idea. I am sure the raf did not strafe them as that would have been “ungentlemanly”.
