Good day gents; about 10 or so of us took part in PennCon24. The venue was the Messiah University in Pennsylvania. It was a real nice campus – they even had a covered bridge on the campus that led out to their ball fields. The event took place inside the basketball court and seemed to go very well. I was able to sit with Mark Tutton at his vendor table several times and he did a pretty good amount of business. You go Mark!
The club, as usual, did very well Everyone who submitted a model(s) won something. Winning gold was (of course) Randy and Scott. Check this out – so did Ben and Donovan! Stud muffins all, Jeff, Tom S. Ross, John, and I won silvers and bronzes. A sister club put one of their tokens next to a figure of mine – a real nice gesture from a fellow club. Accordingly, Chad has been tasked to develop Raven tokens we can put on tables to let that modeler know our club appreciated their work!
A couple of guys (they know who they are!) came to the contest out of uniform! This displeases the benevolent dictator for life. So, let’s get another round of shirts ordered; I have 1 commit to a shirt, so need 5 more to get the minimum order in. All who do not have a shirt get on board and give me your size (FYI, the shirts are a solid quality – no need to order larger to allow for laundry shrink as these don’t)
Here are some photos of the event. See you all at the October meeting!

Way to go, guys! That’s a lot of shiny objects to bring back home. I hate that I couldn’t make it but glad to hear we had a good turnout.

Im confident that I can speak for my cohort Jeff and say that it will be a LONG time before I build anything that is painted orange again! The category set-up of the show this year made it exceedingly difficult for a truck model to do well with the judges (too many world class CARS to compete against). But our ace truck building crew pulled it off anyhow. So kudos to Jeff, John, and Saylor for another splendid display!

the aircraft section had some superb builds but Donovan did the club proud with his two awards. Against the amazing competition, the Ravens (via Donovan) in the military aircraft section held our own. Woohoo. Ross was spot on about the cars and trucks. There were amazing vehicles with amazing finishes. The competition throughout was very high. Todd, if you had brought your Star Cruiser, you would have taken the Sci Fi category!! You would have liked to have seen the Best of Show entry – it was a Sci Fi Mars lander things with fiber optics throughout – right up your alley. You guys who did not go missed seeing 3 stunning military dioramas by a modeler-they were It’s a pleasure (at least for me) to see the work other modelers do and their creativity. What a good hobby.

Congrats to everybody who brought home some hardware! It was one of the best PennCons I have attended over the past 25+ years of attending. Agree with most everyone who attended about how great the venue was. Not all were happy, but rare is the place that satisfies everyone. I did very well selling, not the best day at a PennCon, but among the top 3 no doubt.
